A client focused attorney with an eye for detail and a knack for handling complex transactions and legal issues, Andrea Scarlett-Lozer is a Partner in the Firm’s Commercial Department. She was called to the Jamaican Bar in 2004 and has been with MF&G since that time.

In her commercial law practice, Andrea’s focus areas are: Project Finance, Mergers and Acquisitions, Renewable Energy and Commercial Leases, but she also handles general commercial transactions.

Andrea has developed expertise in Renewable Energy, having acted as lead attorney in one of the island’s largest private sector renewable energy projects. She has also advised clients on issues related to the regulatory framework for Renewable Energy, electricity generation and distribution generally. This experience coupled with her position on the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica Energy & Environment Committee ensures that Andrea is constantly up-to-date with the happenings in the local energy sector.

In the area of Project Finance, Andrea recently acted as the lead attorney for a group of international lenders, including the Inter-American Development Bank, PROPARCO and other development finance institutions who provided funding of US$265,000,000 to Kingston Freeport Terminal Limited to expand, upgrade, and operate the Container Terminal in the Port of Kingston in Jamaica.

Her repertoire of transactional experience also includes acting as counsel in the sale of a major local bank, the government’s divestiture of its sugar assets, and sale/acquisition of interests in major manufacturing and distribution companies.

Andrea also has an established Intellectual Property law practice and currently heads the Firm’s Intellectual Property Sub-department. She also advises clients requiring legal services relating to Entertainment, Sports, Technology and New Media.

Andrea actively participates in charity, legal education and professional associations, including:

  • The Jamaica Bar Association and its Intellectual Property and Commercial Law Sub-Committees;
  • The International Trade Marks Association and its Anti-Counterfeiting Committee;
  • The Norman Manley Law School as an Associate Tutor of Landlord and Tenant Law;
  • The Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica Energy & Environment Committee; and
  • The Graduates Foundation (a charity providing educational opportunities and scholarships to inner city students) as Founder and Director.

She is a published writer and frequent presenter on legal subjects. Andrea enjoys fitness related activities.
