Simone Bowie Jones joined MF&G in 2005 and is a Partner in the firm's Commercial Department. She graduated from the University of the West Indies having obtained a Bachelor of Laws Degree with Honours and then completed her studies at the Norman Manley Law School.
Her practice areas include Fintech, Banking and Financial Regulation, Securities, Corporate & Structured Finance, Competition, Consumer Protection, Product Registration and most significantly, Takeovers and Mergers.
She was actively involved in the acquisition of Air Jamaica by Caribbean Airlines, the acquisition of Lascelles deMercado & Co. Limited by Angostura Limited and the merger of the Tortuga franchises throughout the Caribbean into one entity, in which Jamaica Producers Group acquired a majority interest.
More recently she acted as lead counsel to:
- Spur Tree Spices Jamaica Limited for its initial public offering and listing on the Junior Market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange;
- the Trustees appointed by the Supervisor of Insolvency, in the sale of the assets in the bankruptcy estate of Jamaica Beverages Limited;
- the majority shareholders of Key Insurance Company Limited, a company that was then listed on the Junior Market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange, in relation to the sale of their shares; and
- Stocks and Securities Limited in the acquisition of a majority shareholding in C2W Music Limited, which took the form of a reverse takeover and is to date, the sole “rescue operation” executed under the Jamaica Stock Exchange Junior Market Rules.
Simone has obtained a Certificate in Mediation Practice and Procedure awarded by the Dispute Resolution Foundation of Jamaica. She presently sits as a director of a private equity and investment advisory company regulated by the Financial Services Commission and of a digital development, marketing and design company called One Great Studio Limited. She is also a member of the Jamaica Bar Association Commercial Law Sub-Committee.
