Marine and Aviation Litigation

Our marine litigation practice group has in-depth knowledge of the shipping industry from both  regulatory and commercial perspectives. We offer comprehensive, specialist advice on resolving a wide range of disputes in the shipping industry. The practice group regularly acts for ship owners or their P&I clubs, hull and machinery underwriters, charterers, brokers, banks and financiers, bunker suppliers, tug operators and The Port Authority.

We have a wealth of experience in litigation and arbitration in disputes including ship arrests and contentious release from arrest, judicial sales, collision and allision claims, pollution and environmental claims including groundings on coral reefs, customs and border protection matters, personal injuries, towage claims, pilotage enquiries, disputes relating to carriage of goods and charter-party agreements.

The practice group is regularly consulted by the Government on the update of shipping laws in Jamaica. Our attorneys are members of the Maritime Law Committee of the Jamaica Bar Association.

Our aviation litigation practice group has secured several landmark court decisions relating to major air accidents and claims under the Montreal and Warsaw Conventions.   We act for several major regional and international passenger airlines, air freight carriers and aircraft insurers.

We also act in litigation for the local airports authority, the airports and are competent to advise all players in the industry on contentious customs and regulatory issues.
